Generative AI refers to AI systems that produce new content — such as text, images, audio, or code — by learning patterns from large amounts of existing data.
Unlike AI systems that classify or predict from existing data, generative AI creates new outputs. A text-generating system produces sentences; an image-generating system produces pictures. The output is new in the sense that it was not copied directly from training data, but it reflects patterns learned from that data.
Generative AI systems do not understand meaning the way humans do. They produce statistically plausible output based on patterns — which means the output can be fluent and convincing while still being factually wrong.
Generated content is not automatically accurate, original, or safe to publish. Always verify factual claims, check for unintended bias, and review output before using it in any consequential context.
