What Is Spatial Data?
Spatial data describes the location, shape, and relationships of features in the physical world. It comes in two main forms:

- Raster data — a grid of cells, each with a value (satellite imagery, elevation models, population density maps)

GIS software comes in two main forms:
- Desktop GIS — installed on a computer, offering full analytical capabilities. Suitable for complex analysis and data preparation.
- Web-based GIS — accessed through a browser, often easier to share and collaborate on. May have fewer analytical features than desktop software.
