Truly anonymized data is no longer personal information and is not subject to privacy law. However, true anonymization is difficult: combining anonymized datasets can sometimes re-identify individuals. Techniques include data aggregation, generalization, suppression, and noise addition. Anonymization should be verified by a privacy expert before relying on it for compliance purposes.
