In a GIS dataset, each feature (point, line, or polygon) has both a geometry (its location and shape) and attributes (descriptive information). For a dataset of parks, attributes might include park name, area, facilities, and operating hours. Attribute data is what makes spatial data useful for analysis beyond simple mapping.
